On Thursday March 13, 2014, the two newest officers of the Oneonta PD, Lucas Harvey and Heather Zimba, were sworn in by Mayor Richard P. Miller Jr.  Pictured below are Lucas and Heather during their swearing in ceremonies at City Hall.  Both Lucas and Heather will make great additions to the Department and both have began their intensive 6 months of police academy training at the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy.  Welcome aboard!

On Monday February 24, 2014, the City of Oneonta Police Department unveiled the new prescription drop box which was donated by Malinkrodt Pharmaceuticals.  The box was installed in the lobby of the Oneonta Public Safety Building and will provide for a secure and environmentally safe way for community members to dispose of unused and unwanted prescription medications.  The Oneonta Police Department will work in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Agency to ensure that the drugs which are dropped off are properly destroyed.  Pictured below (L-R) are Richard Nikolas, head of Malkinkrodt Pharmeceuticals Security, Assemblyman Pete Lopez, Senator James Seward, Kenneth Yamashita from Malinkrodt Pharmaceuticals, OPD Chief Dennis Nayor, Oneonta Mayor Richard Miller, and OPD Lieutenant Douglas Brenner.

The City of Oneonta Police Department is pleased to announce that Officer Scott Sheldon has graduated from the Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy on Saturday, January 11, 2014.  Officer Sheldon has successfully completed approximately 800 hours of required training in the police academy which includes sessions in Firearms proficiency, Defensive Tactics, Physical Fitness, Emergency Vehicle Operation,  Penal Law, Vehicle and Traffic Law, Criminal Procedure Law, and numerous other law enforcement related topics.

Officer Sheldon is a graduate of Cherry Valley Central School and Herkimer County Community College.  Officer Sheldon is continuing a family career path with his immediate family working in Law Enforcement in various capacities in Otsego County.

Officer Sheldon will continue his Department field training prior to being assigned to solo assignment within the patrol division.  Congratulations Scott on a job well done!

Congratulations to Officer Anthony Capristo and Officer David Schulte who graduated today, November 1, 2013, from the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy.  They have both spent 8 months training and received over 1200 hours of academy instruction and should be very proud of their accomplishments.  They will now be completing their field training after which time, they will be released for solo assignment.  Great job Anthony and David!

The City of Oneonta Police Department led the annual Halloween parade on Main Street at 7:00 P.M. October 31st.  Even with all of the rain, there was a great turnout and some excellent costumes!

On Tuesday, October 8, 2013 Scott Sheldon was sworn in as Oneonta's newest police officer.  Scott grew up in Cherry Valley, NY and comes from a dedicated law enforcement family.  Scott graduated from Herkimer County Community College with an Associates degree in criminal justice and and will be a great part of our team.  Welcome aboard Scott!

On March 11, 2013 Mayor Miller swore in the newest officer of the Oneonta Police Department, David Schulte.  David and his family are lifelong residents of the City of Oneonta and are respected members of this community.  Before being hired as an officer, David was an Oneonta Police Explorer and a civilian dispatcher.  David is a graduate of Oneonta High School and SUNY College at Oneonta.  Welcome aboard, we know he will make a great addition to the Police Department!

The City of Oneonta PD welcomes their newest officer, Anthony Capristo.  Anthony was sworn in on January 9, 2013.  Prior to his appointment to this Department, Anthony graduated school locally, attended SUNY Oneonta, was a member of the Oneonta Fire Department, and spent 6 years in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.  He has been deployed overseas numerous times, served our country with honor, and will be a great addition to our team.  Congratulations Anthony!
